baptism
BAPTISM comes from the Greek word baptidzo, or, literally, ‘to immerse' - those who BELIEVE that Jesus is the Son of God and that God raised Him from the dead are the ones who are immersed/baptized.
At Dallas Church, every member must have been baptized the way Jesus commanded and demonstrated regardless of how we were taught or raised otherwise.
The METHOD of baptism in the New Testament and early church was total immersion in water in the ‘name of Jesus Christ’ or rather, by the authority of Jesus Christ the Lord.
Neither we at Dallas Church, nor any other church or creed has the authority to change this pattern or plan given to us by Jesus Christ Himself.
The TIMING of a person’s baptism is the point where he or she is ready to surrender their lives up to Jesus Christ and embrace the gospel, or good news of forgiveness in His finished work on the cross for our sins. In the early church, the new believers were baptized the SAME DAY they came to faith.
The REASON, or the WHY behind this immersion/baptism is strong in may ways:
- We FOLLOW the example set by Christ (Mark 1:9)
- Christ and the Apostles COMMANDED IT (Matthew 28:18-20)
- Baptism has a great deal of SIGNIFICANCE (Rom 6:4; Col 2:12)
- It is the picture of a NEW BIRTH (John 3:3-5)
- It provides a COMMON message for the church the world (1 Cor 1:10)
